FREE video conference March 6, 2008

On March 6th at 10AM-11AM WSU Jefferson county will be offering a FREE video conference networked meeting on Community Service Learning.

The program will focus on the new WSU Center for Civic Engagement, how it has evolved over the past few years, some of its successful partnering with WSU Extension in other communities. For example in Republic WSU landscape students are working for the community at $15 an hour to design recycling of old school building and downtown development. In Jefferson County the Center is working with WSU’s TEAM JEFFERSON, the local economic development team, to assess future ferry and transportation strategies.

WSU is excited about the opportunity to engage local projects with University based students and research. “We are particularly excited about opportunities that might engage our local schools and students in working directly on research projects with University staff and students. Life long learning means that technology can bring together people with curiousity and passion, no matter where they live”. Said Katherine Baril, Director of WSU Jefferson County

Guests for the WSU program will include:
Melanie Brown, Director, Center for Civic Engagement
Kim Freier, Ass't Director
Michael Schwartz-Graduate student
