The Washington CTED report describes the economic impacts of travel to and through Washington and the state’s thirty-nine counties from 1991 to 2006
Local Highlights:
- Jefferson County has more than 10 percent travel-generated jobs . It joined other non- urban counties (Skamania, Pacific, San Juan, Grays Harbor, and Chelan).
- In Jefferson County total travel spending is $98 million in 1991 and
$28 milllion in 2006. Tourism employment is about 1,620 and total tax reciepts are $ i2 million local – $5 Million statewide .
- In l991 the travel spending in Jefferson County was $ 63.4 million.
- In 1999 it was 81.6 million and in 2006 it was 98.6 million.
Statewide HIghlights:
- Travel spending was $13.9 billion in 2006, a 9.2 percent increase over 2005
- Travel spending generated 146,500 jobs with earnings of $4.0 billion in 2006.
Earnings increased by 4.7 percent over 2005 and employment increased by
2.0 percent.
-Visitor spending in King county accounted for 42 percent of all visitor
spending in the state in 2006. The western counties (excluding King)
accounted for 29 percent, the eastern counties accounted for 20 percent, and
the coastal counties accounted for 8 percent
-Travel-generated employment accounted for 3.8 percent of all jobs in
Washington in 2006.
-Total lodging tax collections in Washington state were $118.5 million in 2006. This is a 15.8 percent increase over 2005.
